I would like to take this time to finally introduce myself! My name is Dana Mark and I am a senior at Longwood University. I’m a pre-service teacher and have been working with your children for the past couple of weeks in the classroom. Once I leave Longwood University, I plan to have a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Masters degree in Literacy and Culture. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with your children and can’t wait to begin teaching my unit to them.
I will be teaching students math concepts that deal with measurement. These topics include weight, mass, feet, inches, yards, millimeters, centimeters, meters, pounds, ounces, tons, cups, pints, quarts, and gallons. Since this is a lot of information for students to learn, I plan to break the unit up into eight days. When they are done with the units, students should be able to identify these measurements, apply them to real-life scenarios, and find their equivalent measurements. I plan on assessing students through their homework and a final test at the end of the unit. Depending on the students understanding, the test should fall on March 21st, 2013. It would be excellent to help students when they are given homework assignments! Not only this but I will be giving them several tools in order to practice the concepts that I am teaching. If you could review these tools every so often, it will definitely help students understand the concepts and preform well on their test!
I look forward to working with your children and getting to know them even more! If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me at live.longwood.edu. I’m looking forward to the rest of the semester with your children and appreciate the opportunity!
